2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - who do we appreciate? Laurel, Laurel, Yeaaaaaa, Laurel!
To celebrate Laurel turning 7, we had a cheerleading party this year. I'm sure my friends from home will appreciate the cheerleading outfits my girls are wearing :). Always on the lookout for a new theme, I talked Laurel into doing a cheerleading party this year thinking
I could just hire some girls from the ward to do the party for me. Things didn't work out as planned and I found myself surfing the internet to help me remember cheers from my high school days. Luckily, once I started chanting a few cheers, ideas began to flow. So I did the party for Laurel myself. We began with a craft: decorating pennants while the guests arrived. I taught them a simple cheer first to "Be Aggressive, be, be aggressive." Then it was their turn to make up a cheer of their own. They could use "Gotta go, gotta go, go, go; Gotta Fight, gotta fight, fight, fight; Gotta win, gotta win, win, win; Gotta go, fight, go, fight, win!" or make up their own words. About half used the chant I gave them and half branched out on their own. I then attempted to teach them a dance routine. Within minutes I realized that was going no where fast, so I asked them if they'd prefer to make up their own dance routine. A resounding, "YES!" was the answer. So off they went in small groups to various parts of our house to make up their own dance routines. I taped the performances while those in the audience clapped for their peers. We opened gifts and had cupcakes to conclude our fun. I must admit I felt a bit bad afterward since the party was very home-made without even a guest appearance - I mean, really, how cool is it to have your Mom do the cheerleading thing? But when I asked Laurel how it went, she said it was great. Couldn't love that girl more! Laurel has always been like that - pretty easy going and loving life. She can have a good time in just about any situation and find something funny about any event. And the great thing is, she'll laugh about it much later at some random moment (when frankly, it wasn't that funny the first time). As always, these birthdays seem to sneak up on me . . . or perhaps, I'm just in denial. She's already 7 -- 7! Time is certainly passing much too quickly for me. However, with Laurel, it's at least fun so we really can't complain. We love you sweetheart!
