What Happened
Last summer I posted two to three times a week and recorded everything from a trip to a local dirt pile to our family vacation. But this summer, I've hardly posted at all . . . this is what happened. Last Spring I read an article that warned about becoming too wrapped up in the digital world. It talked about people who spent hours and hours playing online games, sometimes even "marrying" people who lived in different states in the virtual world they were both involved in, causing them to ignore or become dissatisfied with their real spouse. The article made quite an impression on me, especially when I read that some women were so focussed on being in "compose mode" for their blogs that they didn't really participate in the activities they did with their kids. After I read that article I warned my kids about the dangers of too much screen time. And then I realized I needed to walk the walk myself. So I have tried to limit my own screen time. I stopped checking email first thing in the morning because everything on email can wait. I limited the time I spent reading online news sources because I often got sucked into the celebrity gossip sections and really, how beneficial is that! And I focussed on really being with my kids this summer instead of just watching them so I could blog about it later. As a result, I've hardly posted at all. But I will soon. I'll recap the summer. And I will blog more regularly going forward because our family blog really is valuable to us and some things you just miss if you don't record them soon after they happen. And because now I know I can walk away if I need to.

You are stronger than I am, Mrs. R. (You always were!) And I, for one, look forward to reading your recap! :)
