Charlotte's Dance Recital 2010

WE LOVE IRISH DANCE!

Ah, dance recital weekend. We love to see it come so Charlotte can perform, but at the same time it marks the end of the season. I love the excited buzz of anticipation before the first recital. Followed by admiration as you realize all those individual girls did come together and create something really nice. And I've always had a bias for Irish which focuses on leg movement instead of hip movement :) - don't even ask me what I thought of those audition-level hip hop class performances!

And this year will remain in my memory as well because of all the wonderful support given to my daughter. The recital venue had limited seating so each family was only offered 5 tickets. We invited extended family to watch Charlotte's rehearsal (which is free), but no one could make it. When two tickets became available a few days before the recital, we again offered them to family and again no one could make it. I must admit I felt a little sad since I'd be the only one at her first recital with David and our other kids coming for the second, but what can you do.

I volunteered to hand out programs at the first recital so I could get in free, but have no seat. As I handed out programs that day, I was surprised at how many familiar and friendly faces I saw. Turns out NINE families from our ward attended the first dance recital. And they could not have been more gracious and supportive of Charlotte. Every one of them told her what a nice job she did, how much they enjoyed her dance, said admiring things about Irish dance in general and complimented Charlotte on her performance. One couple even held their 2-year-old daughter so I could sit in her seat after intermission. I feel such gratitude for our amazing ward family - you all really touched my heart!

Below are pictures after the recital, a picture with Charlotte's teacher, Erin, and a short video clip of Charlotte's rehearsal run the week before.

  1. What a beautiful grand daughter I have. I really enjoyed the video and seeing her dance it brought tears to my eyes. Oh how I wish I could have been there to see her perform. I loved the peppy music and loved seeing Charlotte's hair a bouncing to the beat
