Wyoming Trip 2010

Every year we go home to visit my folks and enjoy some time in the country.  My kids would really, really like to live in the country.  Because in the country you can go outside without telling an adult.  You have lots of space to run with a pool and park across the street plus a horse at your disposal plus a 4-wheeler to ride and don't forget the unexpected puppies that make their appearance every year.  Grandma has multiple candy jars around the house so you can get a sugar fix in pretty much every room all day long . . . and the jars keep magically replenishing themselves.  There is a password-free computer with endless games on it and two people (a.k.a. Grandma & Grandpa) who are always willing to play marbles or cards with you.  Let's face it - Wyoming is kid heaven.

Riding in the back of Grandpa's pickup to the farm.

Naming the puppies.  Here is Jack (named by Jacob who is hovering while Laurel holds him).

And Ben - named by Charlotte.

Riding Lady, the horse.

And digging in the dirt with Grandpa's shovel when it's not your turn.

Dodging the sprinkler.

Cooking dinner on the mountain.

Finding a natural "diving" board for the cold, cold mountain stream you choose to swim in.

Laughing with Grandma & Grandpa Lewis.

Hanging out with Mom and Dad and wild animals who have been rescued by the Beartooth Nature Center in Redlodge, Montana.

Not shown are images from driving 14 hours and 13 minutes in ONE day; visits with Scott, Melinda, and the cousins;  fireworks, fireworks, fireworks (thank you David Rael!);  catching up with my long-time friend Julie who is one of those people who simply makes the world a nicer place (oh, and her husband, Dave, is pretty great too); visiting the cemetery because Mom wants kids to appreciate their heritage; geocaching and finding all 7 caches; enjoying the scenery on our drive to Redlodge, and hearing Mary yell "heeersies" (horses) over and over and over again until we finally turn a corner and she points out the "sheeeeeep" to us.  In a nutshell - one awesome vacation!

  3. Oh, I recognize that place in the first photo! Except that in my memory the back of the truck was filled with silage...and us. And then the horse. I thought of the times I rode on the back of your horse with you at the reins. And if only your front yard still had the ditch, your kids REALLY would have known heaven!

By the way, how is your mom doing? Mom told me she had to have a second operation! Ugh. Give her my best, please. Love that woman!

  4. I forgot: I love that you wrote 14 hours and THIRTEEN minutes. What exactly happened at minute thirteen? I'm assuming some sort of breakdown--no, wait...that was me. I remember one trip I turned into the devil, looked at Thomas and spat, "PULL OVER!" That was a bad trip.
