In one word: memorable. But not for the typical reasons. We did enjoy a large dinner on Thursday with all the fixings. And we did express gratitude for our many blessings. And we did enjoy being together as a family. But we do that every year. What made this year memorable was what happened on Friday morning. Wanting to kick off the Christmas season, Jacob and I headed to the Hallmark store all of 1.3 miles away. And wrecked the car less than a mile from our house. Yep, we'd just taken off all insurance except liability one month prior to the accident, so the car was a total loss. I hit a patch of ice and slid about 50 yards, rear-ending the truck in front of me. Tiny little scratch on his bumper, completely crumpled hood for me. What can you do?
Why, buy a new car, of course. The rest of the Friday was spent looking at cars. And on Monday we purchased a Camry. I tell David I bought him a car for Christmas and he laughs. I am indignant - how many others wives would go to the trouble of wrecking his car so we had a good excuse to buy a new one???
Saying goodbye . . . my husband actually feels sentimental about getting rid of a car, an emotion that I don't really share. I did feel sick, however, when it came time to purchase a new one :).
