Also known as the State Fair! For my birthday, David took the day off and we took our kids to the State Fair where you can purchase literally any food imaginable on a stick, deep fried, and most likely, covered in chocolate. This is my kind of event :). The crowds were light the day we attended, so we enjoyed short lines for all of the rides at the midway and at the various food vendors. We had our traditional cheese curds and french fries for lunch, throwing in a foot-long hotdog and some corn dogs this year. Followed by a trip to the all-you-can-drink milk booth. Best bargain at the fair if you ask me. Our family alone probably consumed a gallon of chocolate milk just sitting on the curb - well worth the $3 it cost us. It was off to the animal barns next. First we hit the fowls. I thought we'd be in and out in a matter of minutes, after all, once you've seen one chicken, you've seen them all - right. WRONG! Mary had to look carefully at each chicken, duck, goose, and turkey. And since she is eye level with the cages, she often went eye to eye with the actual bird. We saw sheep, pigs, and cows as well, but missed the horses since Wednesday was their transition day.
All four of my kids dream of being a farmer and living in the country when they grow up, so their favorite exhibit was the Little Farm Hands. David drooled over a doon buggy (only $14K - a real bargain according to him). And I felt like the luckiest lady alive to be enjoying such a beautiful sunny day with my favorite people. I told David we need to do this for my birthday every year as I would rather be with them than anyone else.
Our little farmers
Charlotte - truly the dare devil of the family. I ended up going on a ride with her because Jacob wisely declined. I thought I was going to die on my birthday. No one else screamed but me . . .
This is more Jacob's style - a crazy house with moving walkways and staircases
It's funny. Yesterday we got up early and took the kids on a little picnic and on the way home I said exactly the same thing. "You guys are my favorite people in the world." It's true. I'd rather be with my little family than any place else. I loved hearing about your adventure together at the state fair, and I'd die for some of those cheese curds. Yum! And you are not alone on the scarey ride. I did that one at Magic Mountain a few years back, and, although I am embarrassed to admit it, my body began crying of its own accord. I was so terrified I had some sort of panic attack that included shallow breathing and tears. Very embarrassing, but I thought I was near death. I really did. That is a ride I will not repeat, and strangly enough, Thomas has never asked! :0)
