Fall Fun

Every year the extended family camps at Uncle Rudy's where much fun is had by all.  David was having too much fun to really focus on taking pictures so this is essentially what we ended up with :) . . .

Our Tent City

"Hiking" to the river with cousins and dogs - what could be more fun!

And today Mary and I went to Apple Jack's apple orchard on a preschool fieldtrip.  What beautiful weather with yummy apples and fun activities.
On top of the hay mountain
Petting a goat after seeing the turkeys and chickens
Helping out the presenter as an apple tree
Climbing on the painted tractor tires

  1. Uncle Rudy's property looks dreamy! What would I give for a place like that. It must be my country roots talking, but I want space for my kids to run!

And how much did I LOVE your sports post. I feel the same way, 100%. I think sports have become way too obsessive. I wish for well-rounded kids, who will grow up to be adults with varied interests and abilities. I enjoyed sports, but I can't remember the last time I played any of them. However, I sit down at the piano almost daily, I sing my children to sleep, yesterday I danced with my baby, I read stories to them out loud with a terrific English accent (thank you drama lessons), I sew (but only when I have to), and don't even get me started on all the cooking that goes on around here...

You know what I mean. I don't know what these parents are thinking. I only imagine that they are hoping their children will go on to play in college, the majors, or the olympics...but the odds are they won't, and then will the sacrifices be worth it?

And you know what? The few people that I know who went on to play sports in college? They came back very disallusioned by the politics involved.

I don't know. I just thought that sports were supposed to be fun. That they were supposed to teach us teamwork, work ethic, competition, and character. What happened to the days when it was one of the pillars that built our children up instead of being the alter we sacrifice our kids on?
