Our school decided to use standardized testing for the first time this year to place second-graders in walk-to-reading classes and to determine who needed math enrichment. I am ashamed to say I was somewhat nervous to attend conferences this morning to find out how Laurel had done. Don't get me wrong, I know Laurel is intelligent and creative and a good student, but the whole standardized test thing is a new concept for her and it came a year earlier than we're used to. I shouldn't have worried. She did great.
So while we're walking out, I said, "You're one smart cookie Laurel!"
I love Laurel's reply. "I know - our whole family is smart cookies . . . it's in my blood."

That is a GREAT response! I love her confidence and how comfortable she is with where she fits in. We need more girls like her!!!
ReplyDeleteTell Laurel she is "right on". There is always a high standard for LEWIS'S, and she fits right in. Being so "cool and calm" always helps her in any situation, and her casual "Oh Well" attitude also helps.
ReplyDeleteLove it! You know what I think? I think believing is half the battle. My mom was a great cheerleader and convinced me that "of course you can do that." I am so greatful for that voice in my head! I know there are a lot of women out there who got really negative messages and they still struggle with believing in themselves. I bless my mom for telling me I was "one smart cookie!" xoxo
ReplyDeleteI still love your blog. I was thinking about how busy it will be when my kids have mutual and how that could easily go by the wayside. I made a decision in my head that mutual will be a priority over any sport etc because it teaches them that church matters and it's a priority. Of course they can have breaks when they need it or when they have a big test...but that night will be OPEN and saved for mutual. In the end I'll care more that they have a testimony and a desire to serve a mission than some of these other things! Hopefully I can stick to my preaching when the time comes! I agree, I want them to be happy kids and someday teenagers who enjoy family time. Eeek. For now I'm enjoying my youngins.
