1776

I finished the book today. Like so many Americans, I didn't realized how close we came to losing the Revolutionary War. I never knew that George Washington often didn't know what to do and had moments of indecision that proved harmful to the cause. Yet he persevered. I think these quotes from the final paragraphs of the book describe President Washington well:

"Above all, Washington never forgot what was at stake and he never gave up. Especially for those who had been with Washington and who knew what a close call is was at the beginning -- how often circumstance, storms, contrary winds, the oddities or strengths of individual character had made the difference -- the outcome seemed little short of a miracle."
