Driving home from school yesterday, the conversation turned to movies. I mentioned how much I enjoyed the "National Treasure" movies and wished I had time to watch them again.
Jacob: "Well, what did you do today - I'm sure you had time." (Where did THAT come from????? David knows better than to take any such line with me . . . but apparently Jacob hasn't learned yet!)
So I told him - I ran snow gear to Laurel at school because she forgot e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.ng.; picked up the boxtops (7000) from the boxtop drive; dropped off the milk lids collection box back at the school; counted the remaining milklids and prepped the boxes for shipment (can you say over 4000 milk lids in three HUGE boxes); did 3 puzzles with Mary; planned meals for two weeks, wrote a grocery list and went grocery shopping while keeping Mary happy and engaged; put away all of the groceries; did two loads of laundry and put them away (thanks to cub scouts, Jacob now understands how much work two loads of laundry is for a family of our size, he he he); finished passport preparations for our trip this summer; washed the dishes; and picked up kids from school. AND these are just the things I can think of off the top of my head.
Jacob smiles at me and says, "yea, you did a lot, but I'm sure you had some time in there to squeeze in a movie."
Oh son, if you only knew - I really didn't - don't - and won't :).

Oh Ella, you are a nice Mom. :) One time (maybe a year or two ago)Isaac said something to the likes of "I do everything around here! You treat me like a slave!" So I said, "I quit!" and I made him a list of everything I am expected to do in one week and he had to do everything, of course he didn't get it all done and cried almost everyday. I didn't feel one bit bad. He was less than helpful before that- his comment was the straw that broke the camels back. He has complained since, but it was a while before he did again, and I don't think he's used quite those words again. I know Jacob wasn't being mean (I enjoyed your post), just not really understanding, but you can tell him Isaac has a way meaner Mom. :) And one day you should come over and watch a movie with me. I have tons of free time because my kids do everything around here.:)
ReplyDeletehaha! That is so funny! I remember asking my mom that too--until I stayed home for "take your daughter to work day" and she definitely put me to work! :)
ReplyDeletehaha, Wow. Moms are amazing! And to think, their kids assume they're just having fun all day while they're in school. My respect for moms has greatly increased since becoming a nanny!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite posts of all time! I love that you said David knows better than to take any such line with you. Haha! So does Taber! When I first had Teya he'd come home to an often messy house and say, "What did you do all day?" Finally I just decided to leave him with her for a weekend. After than he never asked me that question again ; )
ReplyDeleteWhere are you going this summer that requires passports? I'm jealous!
