Mom Homework

It's rather odd when your 11-year-old son asks you to unlock the computer so he can check his stock portfolio :).  Have I mentioned lately how much I like our school?

It's good to remember how much I like our school because last night, there was more "Mom Homework" than kid homework.  I appreciate our teachers greatly, but sometimes I think they forget that the reason we have such a great school is because we have such great parents.  And I count myself as one of those.  Last night I was editing Jacob's rough draft for his autobiography, helping Charlotte find "creative and interesting" invention vocabulary words for Word Masters, and checking Laurel's math homework to make sure she did it correctly since I'm her "math partner."  Each of my children's teachers happily sent my child home with the specific assignment to include their parent in their homework activity.  Last night I was tempted to send the teachers an email and ask, "Do you really think I don't spend enough time with my kids that you need to 'actively involve' me in their homework?"  Come on - I'm a stay-at-home mom who actually stays home when I'm not at the school doing the hundred other things you people need done.  Fortunately, I waited and did not send that email - rather I'm blogging about it here :).  I'm done ranting now.  I really do love our school and all they do for my children.

And we did have a HUGE success this week.  Laurel finally joined the 100 club for subtraction math facts.  YEA, YEA, YEA, YEA!  One less thing for us to practice each morning.  Last week, I finally figured out how she learns - Laurel is an auditory learner (like her sister Charlotte and her Mom!).  So once I started stating the math fact out loud to her (14-8 = ?), she flew through them and passed the test on Friday.  And the icing - I thought all this time, we were the only ones who hadn't mastered subtraction yet (she passed off addition a long time ago).  Come to find out, Laurel is the second member of the 100 club for math fact subtraction.  I'm just relieved we have one less thing to practice and track every day.  Oh happy day!
