Jacob & Basketball

Yea, yea, Jacob's basketball season ended in March (of course), but I figure better late than never with my blog entries.  I've included my three favorite pictures from the season.  All three are blurry which only proves that Jacob was constantly on the move.

We loved basketball this year.  Fifth grade is the first time kids split between traveling and league ball.  We didn't even try out for traveling because they only do tournament play on Saturdays and Sundays and we believe in keeping the Sabbath day holy.  I was worried how competitive the house league would be and if we'd like it, etc.  It was great.  We had a wonderful team with nice kids and nice families.  Our coach was very good at building a team and the boys really came together quickly and worked well together the entire season.  The skill level ranged quite a bit on all of the house league teams and we - the Cavaliers - won some and lost some.  But despite a win or a loss, the boys played as a unit and allowed all team members to handle the ball and to shine a bit.  We loved it!  The best part was that Jacob loved it.  He told me that although last year's team was better (they took 2nd in the tournament and almost all of them went on to the traveling league), he liked this team better because he felt like he belonged.  I think that's what sports should be about - being part of something and knowing your success or failure depends on how well you work together as a team.  It was fun and we're all looking forward to next year.
