A couple of weeks ago, Jacob casually mentioned on Sunday that he had an orchestra concert that week. Luckily I heard him. "What?" "Oh, I have an orchestra concert this week. On Wednesday." Good to know, Jacob! That evening, we also learned that he missed a practice he failed to mention because we had a conflict that night. Conflict or no conflict, I would have appreciated the information. And I grumbled a bit under my breath at Jacob's orchestra teacher for not communicating better with parents. But all ended well. We made it to the concert and it was lovely. And I'm happy Jacob has this opportunity.

It reminds me of an experience in elementary school. I was notorious for not telling my parents important things until the last minute. When I was in fifth grade I casually mentioned to my mom late one evening that I needed a brightly colored skirt for my school play the next day. I don't know how early my mom got up the next morning, but she sewed me a skirt before my school bus came. What would we do without our moms!
