Jacob Turns 11

It's hard to believe, but Jacob turned 11 this year.  After thinking most of last year that I'd be sad when this event occurred, I was surprised to find myself quite happy when the day arrived.  11 seems like a milestone birthday to me with becoming a boy scout and all that entails.  So instead of sad, we were happy and very proud of our son and what a great young man he is growing up to be.  We had a quiet family celebration on Jacob's actual birthday followed by a party the following evening.  For Jacob's birthday dinner we had breaded chicken with mashed potatoes and biscuits followed by our traditional Texas Chocolate Cake.  Gift opening was next followed by some games and watching one of our favorite reality TV shows: The Biggest Loser or Survivor.

And Jacob's birthday party was the best and easiest we've ever done.   Jacob and his three closest friends started the evening at a local bowling joint for two games of hitting the pins.  I then transported them to our home where we had pizza waiting (love that order ahead feature online!).  We then enjoyed ice cream sundays before turning the boys loose in the basement to play video games.  The crew was here until 11:00 p.m. playing games (inside and out) before David and I ran them home.  So easy and so fun.  When I asked Jacob the next morning how his party was, he said, "AWESOME!"  Can hardly wait until next year :).

Gifts, gifts, gifts!

I have to explain the pink sticky note on Jacob's chest . . . it is a poem from Laurel written to honor Jacob on his birthday.  And he's such a great brother, he let her stick it to his chest.

Left to Right: Caleb, Isaac, Jacob, Tyler
