Corcoran Baseball

I LOVE IT! Last year we played in Maple Grove which meant two practices a week plus two games. A practice was scheduled every Sunday which we did not attend since we live the 10 commandments and believe in keeping the Sabbath Day holy. As a result, Jacob was dropped to the bottom of the batting roster. To say the least, it wasn't that great of an experience.

So this year we went to Corcoran - the little country town west of Maple Grove. And we have loved every minute of the season. The coaches are patient and supportive of all the boys, the season is shorter, the whole attitude is less intense, and most importantly, the families are exceptional. We belong here. Jacob has truly bloomed in a less-intense environment. He is actually having fun (which, of course, means we are having fun too). And the irony of the whole situation is that I'd willingly pay more for the Corcoran experience, yet it costs a 1/3 of what Maple Grove charges.

Last night was the first tournament game for our Corcoran 1 team (no fancy uniforms or names here). We won so we play again tonight. It is a tradition double-elimination tournament which allows a team to lose one game and still place if they win every game thereafter. As usual, our team started out a little cold, striking out the first two innings with only one run. But once those muscles warmed up, we rallied and won 12-9. Jacob had several amazing hits to the outfield which brought in multiple runners. He crossed home plate himself at least 3 times (I lost count after that). But the highlight of the night for us was when he caught a pop fly then threw it to first base to get the returning runner out as well. So fun - so exciting.

We had a team celebration afterwards with hotdogs, chips, and cake. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE Corcoran baseball???? Thank goodness for small towns. We belong in one. Now I think I'll go make some apple pie :).
