Wonderful Wyoming

I was blessed to live in the same town, in the same state, in the same house my entire life until I left for college. I know, some of you will think that was boring, but I really appreciate the consistency, stability, and having a place to call Home. Cowley, Wyoming will always be part of me and I will always feel good when I go there. We spent two amazing weeks visiting my parents in Cowley this summer. Pictures can't really capture it. Neither are my words capable of describing how I feel about that little town, but I will make an attempt anyway.

Cowley is:
beautiful. I love how the sun peeks over the mountains in the morning bathing everything in light. I love how that early-morning light makes the land radiate softly, bringing out the best of every brown, yellow, and green present.

dark. The nights are so dark and still there. I am always surprised all over again when I return just how dark it gets in the country and how quiet - no freeway noise.

cool. Good sleeping weather as my Mom and Dad always say. It cools off overnight which is truly refreshing.

friendly. So many good people, so many good memories. Just as an example, David and I took our kids to Powell (30 minutes away) for the pizza buffet. The waitress asks me if I'm from Cowley. I reply, "Yes, do I know you?" No, I didn't know her, but she recognized me from Cowley because her family lives there.

peaceful. I really love the absence of all my regular busyness when I visit.

family. With each passing day, I appreciate my Mom and Dad more and more. They were and are great parents. I wish we lived closer. I love how they love my kids and how my kids love them. I love how I grew up. I feel lucky to be married to David who, with me, plans to let our kids live in the same town, in the same state, in the same house for their entire lives. We are giving them a home. A place they can always come back to and find peace, just like what we both have in our homes.

  1. I concur on all points. I'm glad I grew up in that same little town with you. And I'm really, really glad you were my first friend! So fun to see you and catch up a little bit while we were home.

  2. I love this post! I feel lucky to have grown up similarly, in the same area. I love how when I go home to Wyoming everything feels so familiar and so mine. You make me a little homesick but I'm grateful for this little tribute.
